Recreation is the way of life in Thermopolis. Residents and visitors can access Hot Springs State Park, which includes the world’s largest mineral hot springs and is visited by 800,000 people each year. Indoor and outdoor pools offer hot water year-round. Wind River Canyon begins just four miles south of Thermopolis with mountains in the adjoining wilderness areas exceeding 12,000 feet.
World-class fishing is available in the Big Horn River that flows through the town. Hunting for waterfowl, antelope, deer, elk, bighorn sheep, moose, and upland game birds is available nearby. Boysen Reservoir and State Park, just 15 miles south of Thermopolis, provides access to excellent lake fishing and water sport opportunities.
The community is situated approximately 135 miles north and west of Casper, WY., and 180 miles south of Billings, MT. Thermopolis is known throughout Wyoming as one of the most desirable communities in the state because of its excellent climate, beauty and friendly people.
